This December brings an increase in in-person holiday events as we step out of restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, with parties, concerts and more to rock you through 2022.

Here is an overview of the many holiday offers of La Jolla.

Events for all ages

• La Valencia hotel welcomes a tree lighting Thursday, December 2 at 1132, rue Prospect. The event will start at 4:30 pm and will feature drinks, goodies, music, singers and crafts until the tree lights up at 5:45 pm Free. lavalencia.com

• The La Jolla / Riford Library presents “Bridge the rooms” at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3 at 7555 Draper Ave. Children and adolescents are invited to decorate the youth areas of the library. To free. [email protected]

• Hotel La Valencia presents “Storytime brunch with Santa Claus” at 11 a.m. on Saturdays, December 4, 11 and 18, at 1132, rue Prospect. The event includes the Med’s brunch menu with the visit of Santa Claus. lavalencia.com

• The La Jolla Christmas Parade and Holiday Festival launch his 65th annual festivities at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 5, with photos of Santa Claus, a meeting with astronaut Jessica Meir and more along Wall Street on Girard Avenue. The parade will start at 1:30 p.m. at Girard and Kline Street, head north on Girard, turn left on Prospect Street and end at Prospect and Draper Avenue in front of the La Jolla Recreation Center. • The La Jolla leisure center hosts a movie night starting at approximately 3:30 pm on Friday, December 10 at 615 rue Prospect, including activities for children, a visit from Santa Claus and a screening of the film “Elf” at sunset. To free. (858) 552-1658

• The theater troupe for young people Grand Facade Theater Productions presents “Holiday Tales VIII: That Holiday Feeling” at 7 p.m. on Friday December 10 and Saturday December 11 at the Congregationalist Church of La Jolla, 1216, rue Cave. • Harry’s café will host a visit with santa claus at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 11 at 7545, avenue Girard Free.

• The La Jolla open-air market presents its winter carnival from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 12 on the grounds of La Jolla elementary school at avenue Girard and rue Genter. The event will feature photos with Santa Claus, live music, crafts, a raffle and a ‘Winter Wonderland’ playground. To free. lajollamarket.com

• The Historical Society of La Jolla presents its first “Hullabaloo Family Vacation” at 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 12 at 780, rue Prospect. The gathering is open to all ages and will feature dancing and singing to the tunes of San Diego ‘kid folk’ group Hullabaloo, led by musicians Steve Denyes and Shawn Rohlf. • The Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego presents “Sea and greetings” until Friday December 31st at 2300 Expedition Way. The month-long vacation celebration includes seasonal family activities including photo ops, vacation music, and an interactive scavenger hunt. Music, dance and more

• The San Diego Children’s Choir presents its 32nd winter concert at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 4 at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, 7600 Fay Ave. The event will feature season favorites and various musical selections from the five choir ensembles. $ 25 and more. ljms.org/events/sd-childrens-choir

• St. James by the Sea Episcopal Church hosts a Christmas bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 4 and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 5 at 743 Prospect Street, with ornaments, trees, decoration, clothing, baking utensils, wreaths, toys, jewelry, paper packaging and more. • The Perry gallery hosts a Christmas from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 December at 2218 Avenida de la Playa. Local artists will paint affordable and creative small items to give as gifts. The event will also include refreshments and music. theperrygallery.com

• The Bird Rock Artist Guild presents the 10th “The art of festivals in the garden” at 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 5 at 5571, avenue Bellevue. Bird Rock resident Leslie Davis will open her garden filled with artwork by local artists. The event will also include live music, refreshments and shopping. • Promises2Kids holds its second edition holiday wine auction at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, online and at Julep, 1735 Hancock St., San Diego. • The Athenaeum music and art library presents a holiday bookstore from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14 and until Friday, December 31 at 1008 Wall Street. The sale will include a large selection of lightly used books, CDs, vinyls and sheet music. ljathenaeum.org/book-sale

• The San Diego Fire Department is holding its “Toys for toddlers” drive until Wednesday December 15 in all fire stations and lifeguards, including La Jolla. The collection of new toys and books will be distributed to needy children in partnership with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. ??
