Las Vegas to host Saturday night Formula 1 race in 2023

Formula 1 cars will race in the spotlight on the Las Vegas Strip in 2023 as part of a new event on the championship calendar, joining Austin and Miami as US host venues.

Las Vegas will host its event on a Saturday evening in November, a rarity in an F1 calendar with Grand Prix events on Sundays.

The race will feature some of the city’s most famous landmarks, hotels and casinos as part of a multi-year deal with F1.

The 3.8-mile (6.2 km) circuit will see cars parade past Caesars Palace, the Bellagio Fountain and Mandalay Bay, as well as the ball-shaped MSG Sphere, which is currently under construction and is expected to be completed next year.

The date of the first event is not yet confirmed.

American interest in F1, bolstered by Netflix’s hit series ‘Drive to Survive’, is booming like never before and has led to renewed interest in racing.

This year, the first Miami Grand Prix will take place on May 8. Austin’s Circuit of the Americas has hosted the United States Grand Prix since 2012, only missing 2020 due to the pandemic.

“It’s an incredible moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the United States,” said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.

“Las Vegas is a destination known the world over for its excitement, hospitality, thrills and, of course, the famous Strip. There’s no better place to race Formula 1 than in the racing capital of the world. entertainment and we look forward to being here next year.”

Miami joins the Austin Circuit of the Americas (COTA), which hosts the United States Grand Prix in October. Until this year, COTA had been the only American race on F1’s schedule since 2012.
