Leanne Wong is the SEC Gymnast of the Week


GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The event wins in four events — including equaling the nation’s highest total in 2022 — wins a freshman Gator Leanne Wong her second Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week honor.

This is the finale of the SEC Gymnastics Weekly Awards as the regular season action wrapped up last weekend. A freshman from Gator has won the SEC Gymnast of the Week award for the first and last recognitions of 2022. Sloane Blakely kicked off the season claiming the award and Wong finishes with today’s honor. A Gator won the SEC Gymnast of the Week honor four out of 10 weeks, while Wong won it for the first time in Week 6 and senior Trinity Thomas won the week 8 prize.

The other Week 10 recipients are Kiya Johnson, LSU (Specialists of the Week), Sophia Groth, Auburn, and Amari Celestine, Missouri (Co-Freshman of the Week).

Leanne Wong – SEC Gymnast of the Week:

  • Won at least a share of four NC State Quad event titles.
  • 39.85 tied teammate in all-around Trinity Thomas as the national leader for 2022. The score is No. 2 all-time for UF. Third victory in the general competition of 2022.
  • In addition to the all-around total, set college records for vault (9.975) and tie best college records for balance beam (9.95) and floor exercise (9.975).
  • Second among Gators with 12 event titles in 2022

Post-season action begins at 41st Annual Southeastern Conference Championships. Florida enters the top seed after winning the SEC regular season title.
