Woobury Nature Center announces fall events and activities


WOODBURY – The Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust has announced its range of programs for October. For more information on all these programs and events and to pre-register, visit the Flanders website at www.flandersnaturecenter.org or call 203) -263-3711.

October 1-2: For kids of all ages, October Farm School, Pumpkin Time, 10 am-2pm, October 1-2, Flanders North Barn. After learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin, each child will decorate a pumpkin to take home.

October 2: A guided hike led by Land Management Chairman John Trainor at 9 a.m. on October 2 at the Hetzel Hut on Breakneck Hill Road, Middlebury

Oct 3, Oct 17: Yoga with Goats, 9:30 a.m., North Barn.

October 5: Artist Dita Carley leads an oil pastel landscape workshop at 1 p.m. at the Van Vleck Farm and Nature Sanctuary.

October 9: Apple Cider Demonstration, 9 a.m., All About Opossums, 1 p.m., with Pam and Bill Lefferts of Ferncroft Wildlife Rescue.

October 11: Adventure days outside of school, October 8 and 11, all ages.

October 14: Dr Claire Rutledge of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, for a talk on “Biological control of the emerald ash borer in Connecticut, 7:00 p.m.

October 16: Flanders Pumpkin and Carving Day, for all ages, families, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

October 19: Arthur Milnor, retired executive director of Flanders, leads a hike at Whittemore Shrine, at 9:30 a.m.

October 21: Needle felt turkey class, 7 p.m. with Rachel Gerowe at Flanders Studio.

October 22-23, October 29-30: 3rd Annual Flanders Haunted Hikes, “Unspeakable Tales of Old Woodbury”, 4 pm-8pm at Van Vleck Farm & Nature Sanctuary.
